Michael Hernandez has seen that worry on the faces of his friends at Westhill High School and other friends and he was driven to action.

"I see that fear among the community at the school," said Hernandez during a rally that he organized Friday. "They're wondering: 'When I go home will my parents be there?' "

Hernandez organized a demonstration: “One Day Without Student Immigrants” Friday afternoon outside the government center.

“They shouldn't be afraid,'" he said. "They should be focused on their education.”

About 80 students along with some supporters attended the rally that was held outside the Government Center.

“I think what we have in common is the American dream,” Stamford Mayor David Martin told the gathering of students as he said others are attacking that dream.

Martin said Stamford police won't be asking people their legal status as they do their duties. It's something he has said in other gatherings.
